In early November Dundee United hosted a Show Racism the Red Card educational seminar as part of the clubs work around the Fortnight of Action.
Dundee United FC in partnership with ArabTRUST and United for All held another SRtRC Seminar for local school children as part of the annual Fortnight of Action in Scotland. This period of concerted action encourages participation from all sections of Scotland's communities to celebrate diversity and tackle racism. This year’s seminar at Tannadice hosted 100 pupils, 50 from Longhaugh PS and 50 from Morgan Academy respectively.
The Panel included Dave Bowman (ex-DUFC), Lee Wilkie (DUFC capt), Marlyn Glen MSP and Joe Fitzpatrick MSP.
Derek Robertson, DUFC Director of Communication said: “This was our seventh major anti-racism seminar at Tannadice and complements other anti-racist initiatives undertaken by the club. We are fully supportive of the work of SRtRC and once again, are grateful to ArabTRUST for helping to organise the seminar on our behalf. We'd also like to thank the new charity United for All for their help.”
Billy Singh, Campaign Manager of SRtRC, said: “I encourage people to get involved by initiating an event at a local level and to challenge all forms of prejudice and celebrate diversity. Football is leading the way in trying to change people’s attitudes and behaviour within football grounds. Our challenge is to spread that message in our communities and everyday lives."
David Mulholland, Chairman of United for All added, “Few sports can unite us like football and SRtRC have shown over the years how that shared enjoyment can be used to tackle the insidious problems of racism in our society. All fans agree on the need to eradicate racism and our new charity are delighted to be involved in this fortnight of action.”
Show Racism the Red Card would like to thank all those that made this event possible, we look forward to continuing to work with Dundee United to organise further activities.
