Coventry City FC hosted a great afternoon for young people from two local primary schools at this event held in the Media Centre of the Ricoh Arena.
The year 5 & 6 pupils had been invited by the club to take part in this Show Racism the Red Card education event, featuring a screening of the SRtRC film and Q&A with Coventry City players Ashley Cain and Dimitrious Konstantopolous.
After a brief SRtRC educational activity and introduction, the audience of over 80 young people watched the film attentively. The Q&A session that followed featured some brilliant questions from the audience. The panel, which included Ashley and Dimitrious was augmented by Coventry City legend and SRtRC Honorary Patron Dave Bennett and representing the West Midlands Police service, Dipak Patel. They all handled the questions well and gave some great answers that the members of the audience will remember.
The club had provided three Coventry City FC goody bags for the best questions of the day and SRtRC provided some T-Shirts, which the panel were happy to sign. All of the young people who attended were able to get autographs from the panel at the end of the event and take away a SRtRC goody bag with them.
This event received some brilliant media coverage from the club’s website and from the BBC Asian Network. (Links to both pieces will be available here soon).
SRtRC would like to thank Coventry City FC for hosting this event and in particular Lara Thorns and Mark Hornby for their hard work in organising it. The football club are also helping to circulate information about the SRtRC school competition to all of the schools in Coventry and their support is very much appreciated.
