Local children Show Racism the Red Card

Fifty pupils from local schools found out how to Show Racism the Red Card at a special McDiarmid Park event on Monday 30 March.
The kids trained with St Johnstone coaches and players, before being shown a DVD put together by the Show Racism the Red Card campaign.
The players signed autographs for the youngsters, handed out Show Racism the Red Card posters and also hosted a question and answer session.
The event is the culmination of a campaign that has taken the Show Racism the Red Card message to schools around Perth and Kinross.
School visits have been made to Letham, Caledonian Road, St Ninian’s, Oakbank, North Muirton and Goodlyburn Primary Schools to show children the DVD and educate them about racism.
The project is a partnership between Perth and Kinross Community Safety Partnership, St Johnstone and Show Racism the Red Card.
Community Safety Partnership Convener, Councillor Willie Robertson, said: “I am delighted that we have once again been working with St Johnstone to promote the Show Racism the Red Card campaign.
“Discrimination of any sort is simply not acceptable in a modern society, and it is very important that we engage with children at a young age. The project educated them in a fun way, and I know that everyone involved has enjoyed it hugely.
“We are always happy to support any initiative that encourages and fosters a greater respect for people’s rights, and which celebrates and promotes community spirit.”
Football fun for pupils supporting Show Racism the Red Card
Perth and Kinross pupils will have the opportunity to see a Scotland football international match live early next month, thanks to the national Show Racism the Red Card initiative.
Free tickets from the Scottish FA have been made available to a number of schools for the U19 international match between Scotland and Denmark at McDiarmid Park in Perth on Tuesday 1 April 2008. The schools involved (Perth Academy, Perth Grammar School, Portmoak Primary School, Struan Primary School, Caledonian Road Primary School and Auchtergaven Primary School) have taken part in recent anti-racism workshops run by Show Racism the Red Card with the support of Perth & Kinross Council.
Lifelong Learning Convener Councillor Liz Grant said: "This opportunity will be very much appreciated by the schools and pupils. We want to promote tolerance and positive attitudes among our young people and are fully supportive of the work being done by Show Racism the Red Card with schools."
