History of Racism
Martin Luther King: Martin Luther King was an American clergyman and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. One of the leading figures in the civil rights movement, he has had a defining influence on the recent history of the United States For further information click HERE
Civil rights movement: Take a look at the largest social movement of the 20th century, including the Brown decision, the challenge to social segregation, voting rights, black power, and the movements legacy. For further information click HERE
Nelson Mandela: Nelson Mandela led the struggle to replace the apartheid regime of South Africa with a multi-racial democracy. Imprisoned for 27 years, in 1994 he went on to become his country's first black president. For further information click HERE
Rosa Parks: By refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama, city bus in 1955, black seamstress Rosa Parks (1913—2005) helped initiate the civil rights movement in the United States. For further information click HERE
The Montgomery Bus Boycott: The Montgomery Bus Boycott, in which African Americans refused to ride city buses in Montgomery, Alabama, to protest segregated seating, took place from December 5, 1955, to December 20, 1956, and is regarded as the first large-scale demonstration against segregation in the U.S. For more information click HERE

Task 5 – Write a story about racism
To write your story you can either use the blank section in the Reporter's Notebook or you can produce the story on a computer using either your own template or the one provided below.

All of the best articles from each event will be entered into a special category in our Creative Competition. The successful young journalist will be invited to our Award Ceremony, where they will receive their prize!
