Show Racism the Red Card has been awarded its first ever funding from the English government
The campaign will receive the sum of £247,844 from now until March 2011 through the Tackling Race Inequalities Fund (TRIF) courtesy of John Denham MP and the Department for Communities and Local Government

SRtRC will recruit three new members of staff thanks to this funding, which will be used to “Tackle Race Inequalities in the Education Sector” through a four pronged approach:
- Provision of Teacher Training Conferences
- Delivery of a programme of anti-racism workshops to young people in East England
- Engaging with Initial Teacher Education (ITE) providers to help them improve their training provision in this area.
- Work in partnership with the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and Runnymede Trust to undertake some research into the barriers that teachers face in tackling Race Inequalities in the classroom.

Teacher Training Conferences
Around 100 teachers will be invited to attend each of the conferences, which will be jointly arranged through our North East and South East offices and held at professional football clubs. The first of these is taking place on Sunday November 22nd from 10am until 4pm at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough, with full details and agenda to be announced on this website soon.
Our aims in organising these conferences are:
- To raise awareness amongst teachers of issues of racism and how these impact on young people.
- To empower teachers with knowledge to recognise racism and challenge racist myths
- To encourage teachers to be reflective in their work and consider race equality in their lesson planning and delivery.
- To equip teachers with knowledge and resources to educate young people against racism in the classroom
Delivery of a Programme of Anti-Racism Workshops in East England
(SE Office)
We will be recruiting two Community Education Workers who will be based at our Bedford Office to deliver the programme of classroom work alongside sessional football coaches.
Between September 2009 and March 2010 we aim to create partnerships with 3 Local Authorities in the region and deliver 60 primary and 12 secondary workshops
Between April 2010 and April 2011 we aim to have secured partnerships with 5 Local Authorities in the region and hope to deliver 120 primary and 24 secondary workshops.
Provision of Support to Initial Teacher Education Institutions
(Both NE and SE Office)
We will consult with experts to produces and distribute easy to follow guidance and provide support for institutions to implement the guidance through e-mail and personal meetings.
Between September 2009 and March 2010 we will deliver teacher training to 4 ITE institutions.
Between April 2010 and March 2011 we will deliver teacher training to 10 ITE institutions
From June 2010 we will have a section on the SRtRC website for ITE providers.
Research into the Barriers faced by Teachers when promoting Race Equality
(SE Office)
We will consult with the Runnymede Trust over the design of this research, and will then collect information from the teachers attending our conferences: this research will inform our delivery over the second year of the project.
Other Priorities of the South East Office
To organise an event at the London Assembly
To work in partnership with the North East office to organise and deliver educational events in the East, London and South East of England; increase the number of all day and two hour events and the involvement of local partners
To further existing and develop new partnerships in the region
To increase sales of our resources and involvement in the English Schools Competition
