Welsh Event

Wrexham FC, February 25th 2009

Show Racism the RED Card held their first event at the Racecourse with Wrexham AFC as the campaign focussed its attention to the North Wales region.

More about this event...

The event was held in the stadium for the first time, which was a great setting for children from Ysgol Clywedog, Eyton Church in Wales Primary and Pentre Church in Wales Primary children.

The event saw the launch of the new anti-racism educational DVD in North of Wales. The Panel consisted of Wrexham first team players Jonathan Brown and Christian Guan, Football in the community officer Brian Manford, Carl Darlington from the Welsh Football Trust and Gillian Grainger from Wrexham Council.

After being shown the DVD, questions to the panel were focused on racism in football, if any of the players had experienced it and what we can all do to stop it in sport and society.

The winner of the best asked question received a signed ball from the club with the two runners up getting SRtRC goody bags.

The first event at the Racecourse proved to be a worthwhile occasion with all attending leaving learning more about different cultures and educational messages on racism.

SRTRC would like to thank Brian Manford from Wrexham AFC, Sam Jesson for arranging the schools and the panel for their participation; we would also like to thank all the schools for their involvement at the event.
