English Defence League members returned to Dudley in the West Midlands on Saturday 17th July to continue the organisation's series of protests bringing anti-muslim racism and hatred to multicultural towns and cities over the summer.
The latest protest by the EDL in Dudley follows two previous visits to the town. The first on April 3rd attracted 2,000 EDL demonstrators from throughout the UK, 400 of whom broke through barriers and clashed with police resulting in 12 arrests, their 2nd visit on May 3rd was a roof top protest against plans to build a mosque in Dudley resulting in 10 arrests and two EDL members charged with burglary and inciting racial hatred.
As usual then what the EDL claimed would be a "peaceful protest" quickly descended into violence. 500 EDL members from throughout the UK attended. Reports of damage to shops and property and threats to local people have been confirmed and police are investigating damage sustained to Hindu and Sikh temples.
The counter-protest by Unite Against Facism and anti-racists (pictured) attracted 350 people. Read the full report, see a series of photographs and video footage of the EDL protest here
