These training day equip teachers, school leaders and governors to confidently engage with young people on the issues of racism and Islamophobia, enabling them to grow up free from the burdens of prejudice and hate.
Young people are confronted with prejudicial influences from a variety of sources. Schools are uniquely placed to counter this by providing young people with knowledge and skills to help them identify, resist & combat racism when they meet it. Young people are developing their value systems; it is during these formative years that discriminatory attitudes be most readily challenged and prevented.

This training aims to:

• raise awareness of issues of racism and the impacts on young people

• enable delegates to recognise racism and respond to racist incidents

• inform delegates of the structure and messages of contemporary far right social movements

• empower delegates to challenge racist and Islamophobic myths

• equip delegates with knowledge and resources to educate young people, enabling them to reject messages of prejudice and hate.

Event Content:
There will be a carousel of interactive workshops on the themes of educating against racism & prejudice and responding to racist incidents. Key note speakers from the NUT and Northampton University will address the challenges we face in combating racism and inform delegates of the structure and messages of the ‘new far right’. Delegates will also have the opportunity to raise their own concerns and have these addressed.
