Tesco employees and members of the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW) trade union from across North Devon were at the Taw View Extra store raising money for Show Racism the Red Card.

They were joined by mayor of Barnstaple, Councillor Julie Hunt, to help spread their message, as well as raising money with a raffle which included tickets to Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City as well as equipment from local football clubs.

Area Organiser, John Ford, said;

“Things like Brexit have given racism an excuse to raise its ugly head again. Everyone needs to be treated the same, it’s about one race – the human race.”

USDAW Divisional Officer, Nick Ireland, said;

“This is about us as a trade union working with employees to say racism is not acceptable in any way, shape or form.”

Show Racism the Red Card Chief Executive, Ged Grebby, said;

“USDAW are fantastic supporters of Show Racism the Red Card and continue to support the charity year after year. The money raised by Tesco staff will go towards anti-racism education for young people and for that we are extremely grateful.”
