On Monday 12th June, SRtRC delivered a training event for PGCE trainee teachers at Aberystwyth University.
Education Worker Ceri Nicolle delivered the day’s event, covering counter-narratives in the classroom, interactive games and how to report racist incidents to the school.
Another important aspect of the day was to inform trainee teachers about the Equality Act and their own rights, in addition to the rights of the children they teach.
All of the students were given practical resources to use within the classroom. In addition to this, they were offered tips to engage their pupils through literature. For example, exploring the role race plays within the Harry Potter books or Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mocking Bird.
We would like to thank the NUT for their support for this project that has enabled us to deliver to hundreds of student teachers in Wales.
Good luck to all the PGCE students at Aberystwyth who will be finishing their course this week.
