Show Racism is delighted to announce the Scottish Football Partnership and Trust have funded us to deliver workshops to grassroots clubs across the South West and South East regions.
The programme would equip young people playing football and coaches with knowledge to reject prejudiced attitudes and behaviour and empower them to become responsible citizens challenging racism.
This is the second year that Show Racism the Red Card has worked in partnership with Scottish Football Partnership to deliver this kind of education work with grassroots football clubs across Scotland.
An evaluation after the workshops in the previous programme found that 89% of the young people felt that they would be better able to challenge racism if they saw it after the workshop.
61% of the young people had never had any anti-racism education prior to the SRtRC workshop.
Below is a sample of responses to questions that we asked the coaches:
1.Why is it important to you that your team(s) had the opportunity to participate in this event today?
“To let them understand not to stereotype people”
“Unfortunately racism in football is on the increase and a number of high profile incidents have occurred recently, anything to eradicate it can go a long way.”
“To make sure kids know whats right and wrong”
“Learn from role models”
“As a club and individually they will learn the importance of treating everyone as an equal and also to think of other race, religion, nationality etc.”
2.What did you like best about the event?
“Took a difficult topic and made it relevant to what the boys care about.”
“Everyone getting involved and speaking their opinion”
“The trainers were excellent with the boys, put them at ease and helped them fully participate.”
“The interaction with the kids”
3. Would you welcome SRtRC to come back and deliver another workshop in the future?
All of the coaches who answered this question said they would welcome another workshop.
“100% encourage our club to roll out in future”
“Hopefully very soon”
“Another course in a years time, but for more than one hour”
