Show Racism the Red Card and the TUC are offering two educational workshops in the North East
We are delighted that the education team is going to be able to spend time with Trade Union activists building confidence on how to talk about immigration and racism in general
Laura Pidcock, North East Education Manager of Show Racism the Red Card
Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) and the TUC are working in partnership to offer free training to union activists around the subject of racism and immigration. The training will help participants to understand the need to critically reflect on their personal prejudices and professional practice, gain a greater understand of the immigration system and it will build and reinforce confidence when having conversations relating to immigration. All of which will be conducted in a safe and non-judgemental environment.
Ged Grebby, Chief Executive of Show Racism the Red Card, said:
“Over the twenty-year history of Show Racism the Red Card a number of key developments for the campaign have been the partnership work with Trade Unions on anti-racism adult education. It is fantastic to be running two separate educational workshops with the TUC, who have been fantastic local supporters of the campaign for a number of years.”
Laura Pidcock, North East Education Manager of Show Racism the Red Card, said:
“We are delighted that the education team is going to be able to spend time with Trade Union activists building confidence on how to talk about immigration and racism in general. We know that in the run up to the EU referendum many conversations will focus on the nation’s ability to control its boarders, this can often lead to racist ideas and attitudes being exposed. It is crucial that workplace representatives feel confident in challenging racism and the myths and misinformation that are so often entwined in the debate. We do not want anybody to feel silenced, we wan to help reps and activists cultivate an environment where conversations on immigration can take place in safety and armed with the right information.”
