October is Black History Month in the UK
October is Black History Month (BHM) in the UK. You can keep up to date with BHM events nationally and in your region through the excellent Black History Month website.
BHM was first established in the UK in 1987 thanks to the efforts Akyaaba Addai-Sebo and Greater London Council. It is an important initiative that seeks to redress the imbalance of historical perspectives. In America, BHM takes place in February and was established as a month long initiative in 1970.
Show Racism the Red Card will be promoting Black History Month throughout all of the educational events at football clubs and during our educational work in schools.
The campaign will be encouraging young people to get involved by researching what events are going on in their area to celebrate BHM.
