Hearing the real life experience of racism was truly hard hitting and inspired me to tackle these issues in my work.

Running parallel to the education work that Show Racism the Red Card provide for young people in schools and football clubs nationwide, the campaign also provides numerous teacher training events as well as equality training.

On Wednesday 9th September Show Racism the Red Card staff, Rosie Ferries and Gary Bennett met with members of staff from Barnardos Newcastle to deliver a session of equality training. The staff in attendance are currently part of the ‘Just Ask Me’ (JAM) programme in the North East.

Both Rosie and Gary received brilliant feedback for their contribution on the day.

Senior Practitioner, Orlean Harbinson had this to say:

‘Gary Bennett was inspirational to listen to, there is nothing better than hearing the real life experiences and personal stories. Hearing the real life experience of racism was truly hard hitting and inspired me to tackle these issues in my work. It made it real and made me want to do something to fight racism.’

‘Rosie’s presentation was bubbly and lively and it made me feel at ease as a participant as I felt like I could ask anything. I would have never guessed it was her first time delivering equality training as she was confident and made participants feel relaxed and comfortable.'

Gary has met with thousands of young people and adults each year to talk about the impact racism has had on his life, both on and off the pitch. Gary continues to be a fantastic ambassador for Show Racism the Red Card and is totally committed to anti-racism education; he is extremely powerful when he talks to both adults and young people.

Since joining in February of this year Rosie Ferries has been an exceptional addition to the team and continues to provide brilliant educational work to young people and adults on a weekly basis.

Show Racism the Red Card would like to thank both Rosie and Gary for their brilliant contribution on the day. The campaign would also like to thank Orlean Harbinson for her positive feedback and to all of the Barnardos staff for their involvement on the day.
