Junior Football Teams Take Action against Racism

October 14, 2014 by srtrc in Scotland

On Saturday 11th October teams from the Scottish Junior Football Association Super Leagues took part in Show Racism the Red Cards annual Fortnight of Action.

Show Racism the Red Card held is first ‘Weekend of Action’ in 2004 during which Scottish Premier League teams participated. We are delighted that 10 years on the  Weekend of Action has grown into a Fortnight of Action is going from strength to strength and more clubs are getting involved. This year for the first time 46 SJFA teams participated.

The Fortnight of Action coincides with Football Against Racism in Europe’s Action weeks. Across Europe between 9th and 23rd October football fans, community groups, schools, and grassroots clubs will be making a stand against racism and discrimination.

SJFA clubs who took part in the action posted a website article promoting their clubs commitment to tackling racism through their engagement with SRtRC’s Fortnight of Action, highlighting activities which took place during fixtures on the 11th October to promote anti-racism.

The players (starting XI) of both teams and match officials in each game gathered in position for the pre-match handshake each holding a large red card in the air with the message ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ on both sides.

Show Racism the Red Card would like to thank all SJFA clubs that took part in this years Fortnight of Action uniting in sending out clear messages of anti-racism and anti-discrimination.
