Incident being investigated by police
Jason Brown reported racism last night during a Conference league game. Jason, who plays for Dartford FC, was part of the team that played Bristol Rovers on Tuesday evening.
During the second half of the game, he heard a home fan racially abuse him and reported it to the referee. The suspect was escorted from the ground and following the match Jason made a report to the police.
On Twitter Jason said "I ask any Bristol Rovers fan that knows this idiot and the steward please go and report him don't let him bring down your fantastic club."
"I really and truly appreciate all the support I am getting not only from my own supporters but from Bristol Rovers."
Jason was subsequently contacted on Twitter by a number of supporters of both teams offering support and encouragement. He said, “Thank you #brfc and #dfc for your support it gives me hope that racism in football can be smashed down to a very small minority by supporters and players!
Now if we can get the same type of backing by the governing bodies and I don’t mean token efforts I mean real action, then you could imagine how much we could achieve together.”
Ged Grebby, SRtRC Chief Executive said “Jason has experienced online racism in the past so it is good to see Twitter being used positively in this instance. I’m glad that the police are investigating and hope that appropriate action will be taken against the abuser.
“As Jason has rightly pointed out on Twitter, racism is a crime and clubs have to ensure that stewards are properly trained to deal with these situations.”
