The conference was aimed at promoting awareness of the issues around bridging the skills gap and improving access to workplace training for employees
Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) were delighted to attend Union Learn’s Annual Conferenece 2014.
Throughout the day, speeches were made by Frances O’Grady (TUC General Secretary), Valerie Todd (UKCES Commissioner), Jim Mowatt (Unite Director of Education), Matthew Hancock (Minister of State for Skills and Enterprise)
The conference was well attended by over 300 delegates and SRtRC had an exhibition stand in the main auditorium.
A keynote speech about the work of SRtRC and the importance of strong links between trade unions and the charity was delivered by Stephen Cavallier, Chief Executive of regulat SRtRC sponsors Thompson Solicitors. Stephen spoke passionately and pragmatically about the organisation, its key aims and the imapct of racism.
The afternoon sessions comprised of a choice of 8 workshops including 2 from SRtRC. Workshops were delivered by Steve Goodsell, Regional Manager for Southern England, and education workers Osei Sankofa and Manisha Tailor. The theme of the workshop was ‘Racism in the Workplace’ and proved to be very successful.
