Prize winners suited and booted visited the capital for our Schools Competition Awards Ceremony
Our annual School’s Competition Prize Giving Ceremony at the Marriot Hotel in Cardiff saw young people from all over Wales enjoy a day full of entertainment and rewards at our Oscar style awards ceremony.
The children were joined by well-known TV personalities Alex Winters and Lisa Rogers as well as Sports Stars from Welsh International team, Cardiff City FC, Cardiff Blues, the Ospreys, Newport Gwent Dragons and Newport County.
The players and special guests handed out fantastic prizes to the winners at the ceremony for their outstanding achievements that included an award, certificate, amazon vouchers, kindles, Welsh football match tickets, the opportunity to watch the Welsh rugby team train and a Gareth Bale signed football boot along with a goodie bag.
The day began with a cocktail reception where the young people had the chance to view all the entries this year and have some entertainment that included circus skills and balloon artists.
Once all the prize winners and guests were seated in the impressive suite they had the luxury of having a two course meal while being entertained by the balloon artist.
After food, the Ceremony began with Alex and Lisa introducing an excellent dance group made up of pupils from Glantaf, Plasmawr, Whitchurch, St Cyres and Cowbridge schools.
This was followed by an Oscar style ceremony that showcased the amazing work of the winners and runners-up. Some of the poetry reading brought a tear to many in the room including presenter Lisa Rogers. The guests were also entertained by pupils from Penyrheol Comprehensive school who sang their winning entry.
Both performances had the audience on the edge of their seat throughout the performance and everyone gave a huge applaud at the end.
After receiving their prizes the young people were able to get a photograph as well as an autograph from the sports stars which led to them all going away with big smiles on their faces.
The overall prize was won by Sandfields Comprehensive School for their innovative and sustainable wall display that not only featured fantastic artwork but was also used to educate year 7 pupils at the school about the life of Nelson Mandela.
Show Racism the Red Card Wales would like to thank all of the sponsors who helped make this event possible and of course all the prize winners for their superb efforts in combating racism in a positive way.
The competition was funded and supported by NUT Cymru, the Welsh Government, Big Lottery, Football Association of Wales, Unite and the Welsh Rugby Union.
