We delivered a workshop to referee’s from the North Gwent Referee Society.
It is essential that we train referees on identifying racism & the importance of reporting incidents so that action can be taken.
Jason Webber - Campaign Worker
Referees from South Wales took part in our Dealing with Racism educational workshop specifically designed for referees.
Campaign Worker Jason Webber delivered the session in Blackwood during the referee societies monthly training night.
The referees discovered the different forms of racism along with correct terminology. The session included some role play scenario work which enabled the referees to experience real life situations they might come across and obtained advice on how to deal with these.
The workshop was well received and one of the referees shared his thoughts on the session: “The workshop was very informative and the fact that we were able to discuss racism openly in a relaxed, but professional manner was good. The key thing was that everything was specific to referees and we now have better knowledge of dealing with it.”
After the session the Referee Society are keen to roll out the workshop to all referees across Gwent.
