Scottish FA to look into claims.
The Sunday Mail revealed video footage which appears to show the striker standing and singing with other Hibs fans, a song which calls ex-Hearts player Rudi Skacel a “f***ing refugee.” In January 2012 a football fan was prosecuted and fined £200 for singing the same song. Police Scotland have launched an investigation into Griffiths’ behaviour, which could result in prosecution. The SFA and Celtic FC are conducting their own investigations.
SRtRC are a campaigning and education charity and see the main tool in eradicating racism and sectarianism from society as education. We welcome the fact that this alleged incident is being taking seriously by the club and the relevant authorities and trust they will take appropriate action.
Too often, people are unaware of the damage racist comments can do, putting it down to “banter”. Last year we worked with over 13,000 people explaining that these kind of comments can create environments where some groups are seen as worth less than others. Celtic FC have always been key supporters of our work and we look forward to continuing working with them to eradicate all forms of bigotry.
