Former professional footballers and SRtRC education workers Paul Mortimer and Anwar Uddin deliver work with the stars of tomorrow
SRtRC education workers Paul Mortimer and Anwar Uddin have been involved in delivering a programme of work with Kick It Out to Academy Scholars at professional football clubs.
The project is led by Troy Townsend, Mentoring & Leadership Project Manager at Kick It Out. Troy, Paul and Anwar have visited 9 clubs so far during the 2013-14 season.
Sessions have taken place at Burnley FC, Portsmouth FC, Rochdale FC, Oxford United FC, Northampton Town FC, Milton Keynes Dons FC, Brighton & Hove Albion FC, Ipswich Town FC and Colchester United FC. With sessions at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Reading FC to come before Christmas.
We spoke to Paul and Anwar about the experience of undertaking training on equality and diversity with the Scholars'.
Paul was enthusiastic about the programme "The Scholars' training has worked really well, it's been fantastic really. The boys have taken on board the message and really bought into it, in what can be a difficult or new experience.
"They've learned and worked hard at understanding what is required of them in terms of vocabulary and understanding equality and diversity. The whole project has been a success."
Anwar agreed and told us " I really enjoy working with the next generation of talent with Kick It Out. The boys and clubs have been really receptive to our work and have made it an enjoyable experience. We hope that they can carry some of our messages throughout their career and continue to be great role models."
