Cardiff City FC Club Event

October 04, 2013 by srtrc in Wales

The Bluebirds become the 1st Premier League team to host a club event this season which took place at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The first football club event of the season in Wales took place at Cardiff City FC with over 80 young people from St. Davids Primary School, Llansannor & Llanharry C/W Primary School and Llangan Primary School.

The pupils visited the Cardiff City Stadium for the day to learn about racism in football and society.

Prior to the event the pupils have been researching the topic and exploring the history of racism.

The morning session saw SRtRC Education team Chris Stokes and Aimee Jones deliver an educational workshop with the young people who learnt about the issue of racism through interactive activities and discussions.

The main event took place in the afternoon, the young people had the opportunity to participate in some role play, where they took on the role of media reporters.

During the role play press conference the children had the chance to interview a panel of guests that included former Cardiff City player Christian Roberts, Campaign manager Sunil Patel, Wayne Palmer from South Wales Police, Cardiff City FC Futsal scholars Ismat & Gareth, Cardiff City FC youth team players Ashley Baker & Dylan Rees and youth team coach David Gough.

The panel faced some challenging questions in the conference and winners of the best asked questions received a bag of merchandise from the club along with SRtRC resources.

First team players Peter Odemwingie and Nicky Maynard also supported the day and the young people had autographs and photos taken with them.

Campaign Worker Jason Webber said “It was another fantastic event at Cardiff City, who continue year on year to lead the way with support for the Campaign and our key messages. More young people have gone back to their schools educated about the issues of racism through the medium of football. Our partnership with Cardiff City is a model for others to aspire to.”

The event was covered by Sky Sports and BBC Wales and will feature interviews with the players tonight (4/10/13) on BBC Sport Wales and Gillette Soccer Saturday (05/10/13).

SRtRC would like to thank the schools for attending the event, Cardiff City FC and the players that supported the event along with South Wales Police.

Cardiff City FC will be showing their support for the campaign during the Fortnight of Action prior to their fixture against Swansea City FC on the 3rd November.
