Saturday 18th May
Show Racism the Red Card held an information stall and provided a competition for children attending WLCRF's Family Day.
The event was extremely well attended by the local community and included entertainment from local councilors who perform in a Scottish folk band, African drummers and a poetry recital by Mohammed Farooq. There was also delicious Asian and African food for sale and face painting and henna art to get involved in. Councillor Angela Moohan who is very active in fighting social injustice and sits on Edinburgh and the Lothians Race Equality Council.
Dee Kinning Education Coordinator said “It was fantastic to be invited to attend today’s event. Since 2001, our partnership with West Lothian Council has seen us work with approximately 2300 S2 young people across all secondary schools who have taken part in anti-sectarianism sessions. A further 150 P7 and S1 pupils attending educational events at Livingston FC and we have trained approximately 120 teachers in anti-racism across twilight CPD sessions and Large scale teacher training days so it is sensational to be part of West Lothian’s story when it comes to promoting equality for all regardless of skin colour, nationality, religion or culture. We hope to return again in summer 2014 to support this excellent community event.”
