Our Welsh team will be holding an educational event with the Welsh National Football Squad.
We have arranged with the Football Association of Wales to hold an event in February prior to their fixture against Austria which has been funded by the FAW.
The event will take place at a local school in Cardiff near the team hotel, which will see year 5 & 6 pupils take part in a day full of educational activities delivered by the Welsh education team before meeting the players at their school.
Campaign Worker Jason Webber said: “It is fantastic that we have arranged our second event with the National team in Wales and have continued support from the FA who are fully supportive of our message and project in Wales.
This season in Wales we have added a new element to our events where pupils will take on the role of “Media Journalists” and will have the opportunity to create and make up a headline for their own newspaper.
Pupils will be tasked to “research” the topic of racism before the event and as well as having workshops in the morning will be watching our Campaign DVD.
They will then have an opportunity to ask questions based on racism in sport and society to the Wales players who will share their experiences of racism in football and pass on advice on how to deal with it.
After the event, teachers will be giving classroom tasks to pupils who will write their articles for their newspaper either using the templates provided or their own. They will use the answers from the question and answer session / Press conference and any photos or drawings they wish to include along with their research to produce it.
The best written and designed newspaper will be awarded a prize.
