Our new resources to tackle homophobia in schools and society were launched at UNISON Centre
We launched two new brand new educational films “Homophobia – Let’s Tackle it!” and “Talking about Homophobia” at an event for invited guests at Unison Centre on Tuesday 17th April.
The night featured screenings of the DVDs, together with presentations from UNISON, The Professional Footballers Association, the NUT and the Northern Rock Foundation. Ex-Professional footballer Leroy Rosenior features on the film and spoke emotionally at the end of the event about the importance of everybody taking a stance and tackling this issue.
Penny Wilkinson, CEO for Northern Rock Foundation said: "Teachers need resources and support to help them to tackle homophobia and homophobic bullying. We are really pleased that SRtRC has taken its years of experience and expertise in producing fantastic resources for use in schools and youth groups and used it to produce these films and education pack.”
Dave Prentis, General Secretary of UNISON said: “UNISON is proud to support Show Racism the Red Card and to have hosted this fantastic launch event. Homophobic bullying is a very real problem in our schools. I am confident that this resource will empower teachers and teaching staff to challenge homophobic language and educate against homophobic attitudes.”
The evening was sponsored by Thompson Solicitors, Simpson Millar Solicitors and UIA Insurance.
