This event was a milestone occasion for our Welsh office as it was their 50th ever club event in Wales.
60 young people from Hafod y Wern Community Primary School and Rhosymedra Primary School attend the Racecourse for our event with Wrexham FC.
The morning session saw the young people take part in a workshop delivered by ex professional footballer Christian Roberts and Education Worker Chris Stoakes.
The pupils took part in discussions and activities exploring racism and its consequences, there were some intriguing talks that took place and some good debates with the education workers.
The afternoon session saw Wrexham FC players Danny Wright and Declan Walker join Christian Roberts for the question and answer session.
The pupils of the best asked questions won a SRtRC goodie bag and a Wrexham signed match ball.
Bradley Stewart from Rhosymedra Primary School who won the overall prize shared his thoughts on the event, he said “I learned that racism is really bad and I realize now that I didn’t know a lot about it and I now know more about racism than before the day.
I learnt that it is a criminal offence if you are racist and I know when people get abused because of racism it really hurts them inside.
It’s important to tell my teachers or my parents if I hear any racism so it can be dealt with by the teachers or the police. As Christian said it’s not telling on them but giving them the chance to be educated like we all have today.”
Hafod y Wern Community Primary School attended the event at the club last season and won our overall prize in our school competition in 2011 and has seen the benefit of engaging with the campaign and our key messages.
Head of year 6 teacher said “The event was brilliant, it is so important for young people to understand what racism is both in terms of sport and society.
We would like to thank Wrexham FC for hosting the event and Football in the Community manager Lee Jones for organising the day.
We will continue to work with the club over the forth coming seasons.
