Ex-professional footballers Leroy Rosenior and Paul Mortimer will speak at UAF's first national conference.
Leroy Rosenior and Paul Mortimer are long standing supporters of Show Racism the Red Card, having regularly visited schools and football clubs to deliver anti-racism training to young people and adults. They will be speaking at the Unite Against Fascism 2012 conference on 25th February - a chance for anti-fascists and anti-racists to plan UAF's campaign for the coming year.
Anti-fascists have staged successful mobilisations against the English Defence League around the country and this year also saw a successful campaign to boot the fascist British National Party out of Stoke-on-Trent and other key areas at the local elections. But the threat of the EDL – now turning its violence against trade unionists and the left as well as Muslims – has not gone away. Now it has teamed up with BNP splinter group the British Freedom Party, creating a new alliance with both an electoral wing and a street thug movement – the classic two-pronged fascist strategy.
Hundreds of anti-fascist and anti-racist activists, campaigners and trade unionists will come together at the conference to discuss UAF's strategy for 2012.
The conference is to be held at Conway Hall, London on the 25th February. For more information about the conference, please visit their website: http://uaf.org.uk/
