Both the Mirror and Guardian are reporting that Oldham Athletic's Tom Adeyemi has been the target for racist abuse. The incident is alleged to have occured during the club's FA Cup tie against Liverpool on 6th January.
Merseyside Police have confirmed on Twitter that they are "investigating following an incident that occurred during the 2nd half of the game."
Tom Adeyemi is a supporter of Show Racism the Red Card and attended an educational event with our campaign at Norwich last season.
Ged Grebby, Chief Executive of Show Racism the Red Card said: "I am concerned by these reports of racist abuse and would like to send a message of support to Tom. I would also like to praise Tom for taking action and reporting the abuse he received. I trust that the club and the police will act swiftly and appropriately against those responsible.
"In the light of other high profile incidents within football recently, it is vital that we redouble our efforts to challenge racist language and insults; all of us have a responsibility to demonstrate that this behaviour is unacceptable and not supported either in football or society."
