The Sky Blues host a Show Racism the Red Card event for local school children
Unique has the star prize of a signed Coventry City football!
Back Row L-R: Jordan Clarke, Nathan Cameron, Cody McDonald and Dave Bennett
100 children from Allesley Primary, Whitmore Park Primary, Charter Primary and St Christopher's Primary Schools visited the Ricoh Arena for a Show Racism the Red Card educational event.
The young people took part in an educational workshop where they developed their understanding of racism and its effects. They explored the idea that we are all global citizens - our everyday lives are shaped and influenced by people across the world. The young people took part in interactive activities where they were able to think about examples of racism and decide on the action they would take.
The group felt empowered to play their part in stopping racism by always telling a teacher - or an adult that they trust - if they ever see, hear or experience racism. They were also encouraged to share the message of Show Racism the Red Card with their friends and families.
Following the screening of the Show Racism the Red Card DVD, the young people were delighted to meet THREE Coventry FC first team players: Jordan Clarke, Nathan Cameron and Cody McDonald. They were also joined a very special guest - Sky Blues legend Dave Bennett, a patron of our campaign. All four panel members took questions from the young people - giving their advice and sharing their experiences of racism.
The panellists all signed brand new Coventry FC team posters which the children took away with them, along with our Red Card magazine.
Following the event, Jordan Clarke agreed to become an honorary patron of Show Racism the Red Card - we are delighted he has pledged his support to our campaign. This is the third time that Jordan has participated in one of our events and he always makes a valuable contribution to the panel, sharing his own experiences of racism from his childhood and within football.
Huge thanks to Lara Thorns for her support in organising this event. We look forward to working with the club again next season!
