Pupils from St Mary’s and Balbardie Primary Schools in West Lothian joined Show Racism the Red Card and invited guests from West Lothian to launch a new one year partnership
The pupils participated in an afternoon of educational activities which highlighted the dangers of racism and sectarianism.
This new partnership will see Show Racism the Red Card’s Community Education team and ex-professional football coaches visiting secondary schools across the five cluster areas and delivering anti-sectarianism workshops with young people.
The team will also deliver a programme of teacher training throughout the school year with Primary and Secondary teaching professionals in Tackling Racism and Promoting Race Equality.
Councillor Carl John, Member of the Edinburgh and Lothian Race Equality Council, opened the day with a passionate speech about West Lothian’s diversity and historical commitment to being front and centre when it comes to tackling the twin evils of racism and sectarianism.
Bill Butler, Campaign Manager for Show Racism the Red Card Scotland said, "I am delighted that West Lothian Council has confirmed its new partnership with Show Racism the Red Card. The agreement will ensure that our message of equality and respect reaches secondary school pupils across the local authority area. I am also very pleased that our partnership will involve a teacher training element for teaching professionals which will ensure that diversity is promoted and celebrated."
