Show Racism the Red Card are delighted to be launching our new partnerships with local authorities
The first of three Local Authority Partnership launches took place on Monday 26 September 2011. This will see Show Racism the Red Card working in schools throughout South Ayrshire highlighting the dangers of racism and sectarianism and promoting positive anti-racism and anti-sectarian messages.
Councillor Nan McFarlane, Portfolio Holder for Social Services and Chair of Equalities and Diversity said: "I'm delighted we can promote equalities with pupils and employees in such a positive and far reaching way.
"This event will allow our pupils to return to their schools as Equality Champions, promoting the messages of diversity, fairness and equal opportunities for all, among their peers.
"It's a superb way to get this vital message to the young people of today, who will be our citizens of tomorrow."
Councillor Hywel Davies, Portfolio Holder for Lifelong Learning added: "There is absolutely no place for discrimination, racism or sectarianism in South Ayrshire and the Council is committed to tackling inequalities at every level, so pupils and resident can realise their full potential.
"Today's launch marks an exciting move towards delivering a programme of education and information to our young people aimed directly at breaking down the barriers of poverty, remoteness, disability, racism and gender discrimination.
"I welcome and fully support this valuable partnership with Show Racism the Red Card and trust it will help us deliver on our aim of making sure everyone, whatever their personal circumstances, has access to the opportunities and services they need to succeed."
