100 youngsters visited Elland Road Stadium to take part in a Show Racism the Red Card event.
It is an honour to be receiving this 'Hall of Fame' award. I have supported Show Racism the Red Card for many years now and have seen the campaign go from strength to strength. Their anti-racism message is such an important one for young people and I'm glad to be able to do my bit.
Simon Grayson, manager of Leeds United
Show Racism the Red Card held a fantastic event in partnership with Leeds United Football club. The day saw Leeds United manager Simon Grayson presented with the 'Hall of Fame' award for his commitment to anti-racism and his active support of our campaign.
The event opened with the Show Racism the Red Card team leading a workshop session and introducing a film screening of our SRtRC DVD, featuring top footballers speaking out against racism.
Following this, Simon Grayson was presented with presented with his "Hall of Fame" trophy by Leeds legend Brian Deane, who is a patron of our campaign.
The young people were given the chance to ask their questions about racism to Simon and Brian. Also on the panel was David Blair from National Police Racism. All panellists spoke excellently on the subject, sharing their experiences of racism and giving sound advice to the young people on combatting racism. The three top questions from the afternoon were awarded with a Show Racism the Red Card goody bag, and t-shirts signed by Simon and Brian.
The event was filmed by local film company The Unlikely Lads - watch this space: the footage will be uploaded soon!
Thank you to the club for their support of our campaign - read more on this story from the Leeds United website.
