This is a mid season update report by the SRtRC Campaign worker for the work and events with WPL Clubs for the 2010-2011 season.
As the Welsh Premier League splits in its new format SRtRC continues to work with the WPL teams towards an anti racist stance and is over half way through delivering anti racist education in partnership with every WPL club for the first time. Below is a summary to date of those actions.
Number of events to be held – 12 all day events
Number of events held to date – 9
Number of school children attending events – 1098
Number of schools attending events – 26
Clubs hosted events:
- Aberystwyth Town FC
- Airbus FC
- Bala Town FC
- Bangor City FC
- Carmarthen Town FC
- Llanelli AFC
- Neath Athletic FC

Format of events
Each event has involved a morning educational workshop delivered by SRtRC Wales Education team Simon Richards and Christian Roberts.
Pupils took part in activities exploring what Racism is and how young people can deal with racism.
The main event has seen around 27 players and staff support the events answering questions from young people on their experiences of racism while playing and offering advice for pupils on what they should do if they experience racism in school or society.
We have events to be held at the below clubs:
- Newtown FC – 10th March 2011
- Port Talbot Town FC – 24th March 2011
- Haverfordwest County FC – 6th April 2011
Support from WPL Clubs
Many of the clubs have features our work and the event held at their ground on their website which has seen media publicity in their area.
Every club featured in our Fortnight of Action where details can be found on our website.
We are continually working and developing our partnerships with the clubs over the coming months and already discussing events for the 2011-2012 season.
At the halfway point of the WPL season we have delivered over 75% of events with WPL teams to over 1000 young people and continue to work with the teams for the future to build on current links with schools and community departments.
For more information on our work with clubs visit our clubs section of the website.
SRtRC would like to thank the FAW and the WPL teams for their tremendous support during the 2010-11 season.
