Teachers from across the East Midlands enjoyed an indepth training day at Sincil Bank stadium
60 teachers, head teachers and local authority representatives from across the region spent the day at Lincoln City Football Club for training on the theme of "Tackling Racism and Promoting Race Equality".
They heard inspiring key note addresses as well as taking part in a number of workshop sessions, exploring how to embed race equality into the curriculum; the importance of responding to and reporting racist incidents and how combat the influences of far-right groups. Delegates participated whole-heartedly and shared lively discussions with one another.
Delegates were able to share and build upon their existing good practice, as well as gaining insight into new ways to promote race equality within their school. Teachers felt empowered to recognise and respond appropriately to racist incidents and learnt the importance of the reporting process. Show Racism the Red Card are grateful to Jill Chandar-Nair and Lincolnshire Police who worked together to deliver a workshop on "Taking Racism to the Extremes", describing the rise of the EDL and their negative and harmful influence on our young people.
Leroy Rosenior, former professional footballer, TV pundit and SRtRC education worker, spoke to close the event. He gave an inspiring address about the importance of tackling racism in all of it's forms, highlighting the power that teachers have to make a positive impact on the lives of the young people in their care.
Following the training day, all delegates were given a goody bag of our full range of educational resources to take back to their workplaces.
Jill Chandar-Nair from Lincolnshire County Council said:
"Thank you so much for a great day. I am sure everyone went away informed and inspired. Please pass on my thanks to your colleagues who all came across as informed and passionate about this area of work."
