North Tyneside school, Redesdale Primary, tell us about their day with the Show Racism the Red Card Community Education Team.
'On Tuesday 11th January Year 5 & 6 had some visitors to the school. Laura Pidcock and John Anderson came in to school to carry out workshops and fitness activities related to racism. This day fit in well with the current RE topic of race & Diversity.
'The purpose of the day was to increase awareness about what racism is and how it can affect different people. The day involved taking part in the workshops designed to challenge children's thinking about racism and allow them to ask any questions they had about the topic. The children created some artwork to produce a display to celebrate diversity and the differences between us.
'Also during the day the children were able to take part in a workshop called 'Football Fitness' where they took part in a huge variety of games to challenge their skills, tactics and teamwork skills.
'The children all throroughly enjoyed the day and completed an evaluation at the end of the day. This was a fantastic day for raising awareness and will be followed up in the future RE lessons during this half-term. '
