Trek to Everest base camp raises funds for SRtRC
THE managing director of a North- East building supplier has raised thousands of pounds for regional charities through her trek to Everest base camp.
Anne Ganley, head of Thompson Building Centres, was part of a team to complete the challenge last month, whose efforts raised almost £14,000.
Ms Ganley has nominated five North-East charities – Grace House Children’s Hospice, Sunderland, St Benedict’s Hospice, Sunderland, St Oswald’s Hospice, Newcastle, The Salvation Army and Wearside’s Brothers In Arms – to each receive £2,000.
The managing director paid for the trip herself to ensure every penny raised went to charity.
She said: “Sometimes it was hard to fit in the training schedule with running the business, but having now been to Everest, I can honestly say it was the experience of a lifetime.
The remaining money will be divided between Show Racism the Red Card and Crash, the construction industry’s charity which supports the homeless.
