All 65,000 school children in Sheffield have this week received a copy of the SRtRC England World Cup 2010 poster.
We are delighted to be supporting Show Racism the Red Card in this initiative and that every child in the city will receive a poster of the England team. This type of campaign is fundamental to show how we use football to integrate and welcome people into communities.
Wayne Coyle, Sheffield 2018 Bid Director.
Sheffield school pupils are showing racism the red card by displaying posters of support around the city.
Paul Scriven, leader of Sheffield City Council, said: "Football at its very best inspires people to put aside differences and applaud the skills of players from all over the world. I hope this poster will help Sheffield children to remember that having football under your skin is what matters, not where you come from or what you look like."
Ged Grebby, Chief Executive of Show Racism the Red Card, said "Show Racism the Red Card have a long standing working partnership with Sheffield Council and it is great to see that every child in the city will get an anti-racist poster via their school. Our charity uses the high profile of professional footballers to combat racism in society and having the England squad 'Show Racism the Red Card' is a massive boost for our work. We are fully behind the 2018 bid and will be working with the bid teams in each city to hopefully ensure the World Cup comes to England in 2018."
Wayne Coyle, Director of the Sheffield2018 bid said: "We are delighted to be supporting Show Racism the Red Card in this initiative and that every child in the city will receive a poster of the England team, particularly during the World Cup. This type of campaign is fundamental to show how we use football to integrate and welcome people into communities. It is also another example of how Sheffield and the country is kicking out racism in football."
