Show Racism the Red Card returned to St Mary's Stadium for a second anti-racism event
Show Racism the Red Card returned to Southampton FC for our second event with the club; organised in partnership with Saints in the Community. Around 90 Year 5 and 6 pupils from local primary schools attended the 2 hour session. They took part in an educational workshop, watched the SRtRC film and participated in a Q&A on racism with Southampton FC right-winger Michail Antonio.
Also in attendance was SRtRC football coach and ex-professional footballer Dean Gordon who helped run the educational workshop and took part in the Q&A with Michail and Saints in the Community officer Jazz Bhatti.
On arrival, all of the young people recieved a goody bag containing a SRtRC magazine, badges and a Southampton FC poster. The audience joined in readily with the educational workshop and this experience combined with the SRtRC film, gave the pupils some great ideas for questions during the Q&A session.
Southampton FC provided a football autographed by the entire squad for the best question of the day and SRtRC had prizes of t-shirts for the winner and runners-up which Michail was happy to sign. At the end of the event all of the young people were able to get Michail's signature on their Southampton FC/SRtRC poster.
The event recieved some coverage from the Southampton FC website and programme, photos and a report will appear there shortly. SRtRC would like to thank the club for hosting the event and in particular Jazz for all his help in organising the day and we look forward to continuing this successful partnership. Plans are already afoot to make the 2010/11 season event bigger and better!
