St Johnstone united with Perth College on Monday for an enjoyable day of anti-racist education and football activity.
Students from Perth College UHI’s Social and Vocational Studies (SVS) courses were the latest to benefit from the continued partnership between Perth & Kinross Council, St. Johnstone and Show Racism the Red Card when they attend an anti-racism educational workshop at McDiarmid Park on Monday 23 November.
Some of the students took part in a game with St. Johnstone’s youth players prior to the workshop where the students were shown the ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ educational DVD and participated in a Questions and Answers session with Saint’s players and Republic of Ireland internationalists Andy Jackson and Graham Gartland. The students will also be given an opportunity to meet St Johnstone players who will sign squad posters.
‘Show Racism the Red Card’ uses top footballers to educate against racism and the student’s visit continues a range of work in this area which has been facilitated by Perth & Kinross Council in their continued efforts to ensure this area is seen to be fully inclusive.
Jo West, Perth College UHI SVS Curriculum Manager said: “meeting, talking and playing with professional footballers is a positive and enjoyable way to build self confidence and help our students understand that there are certain behaviours, such as racism and bullying which should not be tolerated.
“This is preparatory work for the students that we will continue to develop in their SVS programmes at College.”
