Rangers FC has joined the growing number of British Football Clubs that have condemned the mis-use of their club’s crests.
A racist group recently hijacked the Rangers club crest by using it in an online social networking site.
When SRTRC approached Rangers, a spokesperson for Rangers FC said – “The policy of Rangers Football Club is well established and clear. We are a multicultural Club and have led many community initiatives to foster tolerance and fairness in society. We are unequivocally opposed to all forms of prejudice including racism and sectarianism. Furthermore any misuse or breach of our copyright will result in legal action.”
Rangers FC have joined the list of clubs angered by the misuse of their logos by the English and Scottish Defence League, these include:
- Newport County AFC
- Newcastle United FC
- Swansea City FC
- Wrexham FC
The Football Association of Wales have also condemned, a spokesperson for the FAW said “The Football Association of Wales in no way condones the practices or ideology of such groups as this and will continue to work with other parties to ensure that our name is not associated with them”.
