Show Racism the Red Card returned to the Bloomfield Road Stadium for a well attended and supported event with Blackpool FC.
This was the third event that the club had hosted in as many seasons and ensured maximum support for the campaign by arranging for Blackpool’s manager Ian Holloway and club captain Jason Euell to attend to answer questions from the young people.
Their involvement in the event had considerable impact on the young people, as SRtRC patron Jason Euell had recently been racially abused at a game at Stoke City FC. Both Ian and Jason spoke out in the press and at the event about the incident.
Over 100 young people from Blackpool Primary schools attended the event and took part in anti-racist educational activities run by Show Racism the Red Card in the hour leading up to the arrival of the special guests. They were then able to watch the SRtRC DVD before taking part in the Q&A session with Ian and Jason. The standard of questions was very high and the panel answered them extremely well. A strong anti-racist message was presented throughout.
There were prizes on offer for the panel’s favourite questions. SRtRC provided T-Shirts which Ian and Jason were happy to sign for runners-up and the overall winner received match tickets for any upcoming Blackpool FC home fixture as a guest of the club.
All of the young people who attended received a SRtRC goody bag containing magazines and wristbands and they all took home a copy of the new SRtRC / Blackpool FC team poster. Ian and Jason stayed at the end of the event and signed posters for all of the young people.
The event was photographed for the club website and they kindly agreed to share the photos with us. SRtRC would like to thank Jason Euell and Ian Holloway for attending the event and participating so readily. We would also like to thank Blackpool FC for hosting the event and in particular John Rogers and Matt Williams for their help in organising the event. We look forward to continuing this successful partnership in the future.
