Show Racism the Red Card would like to highlight that certain groups have been using clubs crests towards promoting racist materials and in turn promoting events that they are planning across the country.
We strongly advise clubs to be aware of this and check social networking sites and take the necessary steps to disassociate themselves from the group(s).
Our campaign has worked tirelessly towards eliminating racism in football and in society with clubs throughout Wales supporting our aims.
We believe events that are planned in areas such as Manchester, Leeds Newport, Nottingham, Glasgow and Swansea in coming weeks are being used by the groups to incite racial hatred and de-stabilise communities across the UK.
Some Clubs / Associations that have been wrongly associated with the groups have provided us with statements below:
“The Newport County AFC logo has been used by this organisation without the express permission of the Club. Newport County AFC wishes to disassociate itself from this organisation and it's campaign”.
Newport County AFC – 28th September 2009
“It has come to the attention that Wrexham AFC and its club logo have been linked and used where the club have not provided permission. Wrexham football club would like to note its desire to highlight it is not involved with the group in question and does not support their intentions”.
Wrexham FC – 29th September 2009
“The Football Association of Wales in no way condones the practices or ideology of such groups as this and will continue to work with other parties to ensure that our name is not associated with them”.
Football Association of Wales (FAW) – 29th September 2009
“Swansea City abhors racism in any shape or form and would like to make it quite clear that the football club does not support or affiliate itself to this organization, its campaign or any other group of this nature. Permission to use the club crest has certainly not been granted and the organization is in breach of copyright laws which we are currently pursuing
The club has worked extremely hard over recent years to eradicate any form of racism from within its footballing family – and we will continue to do so”.
Swansea City FC – 29th September 2009
