Show Racism the Red Card visited Leicester City FC recently for an event with 100 young people from the local area at the Walkers Stadium.
The event was a great success and the young people were able to put questions on the issue of racism to our distinguished panel:
- Chris Powell – Chairman of the PFA, England international and current Leicester City player.
- Aman Verma – Leicester City midfielder and the club’s first ever Asian player.
- Gary Bennett - Former Manchester City, Cardiff City and Sunderland AFC player, now working for SRtRC delivering football training and anti-racism workshops in schools.
- Mike Brown – Unison Regional Organiser for the East Midlands.
All youngsters attending the event were given a Leicester City FC/SRtRC goodie bag including a Leicester City FC poster, a magazine, stickers and vouchers for match tickets for the Leicester home game against Carlisle United. After viewing our latest anti racist DVD featuring Thierry Henry, Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand and many others, the young people were able to ask questions of the panel.
All members of the panel recounted their experiences of racism they had suffered and spoke enthusiastically about the success of Show Racism the Red Card over the last 13 years.
The questions were really good and the panel answered them all in detail. The overall winner of the best question received a Leicester City football signed by the current first team squad, very generously donated by Craig White and Dirk Smith. There were also match tickets and footballs for the runners up.
Show Racism the Red Card would like to thank Craig White, Dirk Smith, Unison and Leicester City FC for hosting us. Sincere thanks also to the panel for their time and continued support for our campaign.
