Fortnight of Action 2009

Show Racism the Red Card's annual Fortnight of Action, 16-31 October.

The Fortnight of Action is well under way, we've had a huge amount of anti-racist activities take place so far across Scotland, Wales and England.

So far we've enjoyed community events, activities where professional clubs have joined with community groups, poster distributions by fans and educational workshops in schools. Politicians have been involved along with ex-professional players, the NUS at Universities and Colleges have been organising events through their student unions.
Football Clubs in Wales have been seen warming up wearing SRTRC T-Shirts, more to follow this weekend.

In Scotland this coming weekend (24th/25th), all clubs in the Scottish Premier League, the Scottish Football League’s Division 1 and Division 2 along with the clubs playing in the 2nd round of the Active Nation Scottish Cup will be demonstrating their support for the campaign through on-pitch activities.

The following weekend will involve the SWPL, the SWFL, the SFA Youth Initiative and the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup
.

Many more community intiatives have been scheduled to take place over the coming weeks including a Love Music Hate Racism gig in Glasgow, see the news story for more info.

For information on events, follow our News and Events section on this website.

Show Racism the Red Card’s  annual Fortnight of Action takes place in Scotland and Wales from 16th - 31st October, 2009.

This period of concerted action encourages participation from all sections of communities to celebrate diversity and tackle racism.A major aim of the Fortnight of Action is to encourage antiracist actions, events and initiatives to take place throughout the year. Many organisations begin their actions during October and run follow-up events during the year. There are other organisations including schools and community groups that look to the Fortnight of Action for ideas and inspirations. One proven way of making a difference is to act on a local level to break down barriers that lead to racist attitudes and behavior. These barriers can include:
  • Racial stereotyping
  • Ignorance of other cultures
  • Excluding practices
  • The idea that any one culture or racial group is superior to another
PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL

1 players ‘RED card’ action at SPL, SFL & WPL games

3 anti-racist tannoy announcements

6 unveiling of anti-racist stadium hoardings
