John Anderson Biography
Anderson signed for Newcastle United in 1982 on a free transfer from Preston North End. In 1983–84, Anderson played in one of the most entertaining sides in Newcastle United's history as the club scored 85 goals and gained promotion back to the top flight. Anderson played in 41 of the 42 league matches that season. He was given a testimonial by the club in 1992 after 10 years as a Newcastle United player, during which time he made 337 league appearances, scoring 14 goals. John represented the Republic of Ireland at schoolboy, youth and under-21 level.
SInce retiring from professional football, John now works for BBC Radio Newcastle, co-presenting phone-in show Total Sport as well as being a commentator for Newcastle matches.
John works for Show Racism the Red Card as a football coach, delivering workshops in schools across the North East.
Anderson received his Hall of Fame award from fellow SRtRC coach and former NUFC defender Olivier Bernard and Peter Beardsley, his former teammate. Huge thanks to John for all he has done and continues to do in supporting our campaign.
