John Beresford Biography

John Beresford attended one of the very first SRtRC events for school students, which was held at Gosforth High School in 1996. At the time John was playing for Newcastle United and came along to the event with Shaka Hislop to answer questions on racism from the audience. John has also been interviewed several times for SRtRC films and resources. He talks honestly about being caught up in racism as a kid going to football matches, following the herd and he is an excellent example to everyone that if you have ever been racist or said something racist then you can change. He has also talked about the positive impact that playing for Newcastle with a squad featuring players from all-over the world and of different cultures and religions had on him.

As well as making 189 league appearances for Newcastle United, John also played for Manchester City, Barnsley, Portsmouth, Southampton and Birmingham City FC. John currently works for ITV as a pundit and regularly attends SRtRC events when he can.
